Communication is the act of transferring information from one person to another. Communication skills is the ability to share ideas and feelings effectively.

It involves being able to engage in conversations, listen, say and do the right thing at the right time and to build a relationship with people.

It goes beyond what we say but how we say it, our body posture while saying it, our facial expressions, hand gestures, etc.

Developing your communication skills can help all aspects of life, from your professional to social gathering and everything in between.

To improve on your communication skills, here are some things you can improve on:

  1. Listening: This is beyond just hearing, it takes focus, attention and concentration to listen. When you actively listen, we expect you to provide feedback from what you heard from the speaker. Listening involves receiving the words, understanding it, evaluating, remembering and responding to what you heard.
  2. Tone of Voice: Usually, when we speak, sounds are used in interpreting the message. Breathing pace, volume, speed, clarity and projection in which we speak all makes up the tone of voice. “It’s not what you say but how you say it”—Anonymous
  3. Be Clear: It’s important that when we clear English that will enable your listener get the actual message you intended. Speaking makes communication easier as both parties understand one another better.

4. Empathy: An empathic person is someone who can recognize emotions in others and understand people’s perspectives to different situations. It means being able to think and feel with another person and helping the person through. Being empathic helps us communicate our ideas in a way that makes sense to others better when they communicate with us.
